Coming from Colombia to live this experience as an exchange student has been one of the biggest and most beautiful challenges of my life. Leaving behind my family, my friends, my language, and everything familiar was not easy, but it has allowed me to grow in ways I never imagined.

At the beginning, everything felt new and different: the language, the weather, the food, the school system, and even the way people communicate. I remember feeling excited and curious, but also a little nervous and uncertain. However, small moments of kindness, new routines, and meaningful conversations slowly transformed that uncertainty into confidence. Little by little, Denmark began to feel less like a distant place and more like a second home.

One of the most valuable parts of this experience has been discovering Danish culture from the inside. I have learned about the importance of trust, equality, and independence, and how responsibility is encouraged from a very young age. I admire the balance between personal freedom and community care that exists here. I have also learned to adapt to the cold weather and even enjoy winter, something completely new for me. Simple moments, like riding a bicycle through quiet streets, sharing dinner with my host family, or watching the snow fall, have become memories I will always treasure.

My host families has played an essential role in this journey. They welcomed me with warmth, patience, and generosity, making me feel safe and supported from the very first day. I have practiced the language, understood traditions, and experienced what it truly means to be part of a Danish home. Their support has helped me grow not only culturally, but also emotionally.

School has also been a place of transformation. I have met wonderful people from different backgrounds, built new friendships, and learned in ways that go beyond textbooks. This experience has taught me more about myself, my strengths, my fears, and my ability to adapt. I have discovered that I am stronger, braver, and more independent than I thought. Living far from my family in Colombia has not been easy, but it has taught me resilience, gratitude, and the true value of connection.

Being an exchange student is not only about traveling to another country; it is about opening your mind, your heart, and your perspective. It is about building bridges between cultures and learning to see the world with empathy and curiosity.

I feel deeply grateful to Horsens Vestre Rotsry Club and to every person who makes this experience possible. Your support, trust, and kindness are heartfelt. Thank you for believing in cultural exchange and for allowing young people like me to grow through it.
